According to Shimano, the rivet pins are for single use only.

Compatibility of Shimano chain pins by version:

6/7/8-speed: HG and IG 6/7/8-speed chain.

9-speed: HG 9-speed chain

10-speed: HG-X and HG 10-speed except CN-7800 chain

11-speed: 11-speed chain
